Boston, MA (April 16, 2025) — The UMass Boston Beacons men's lacrosse team set a new season high with 29 goals, cruising to a dominant 29-1 victory over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in Little East Conference action on Tuesday.
How It Happened
The Beacons wasted no time asserting control, dominating play from start to finish. Matt Hutchings (Mount Kisco, N.Y.) opened the scoring with his first of eight goals on the day. Seth Libby (Pomfret, CT.) doubled the lead before Cole Allan (Falmouth, ME.) completed a first-quarter hat trick, leaving UMass Boston with a 5-0 advantage at the end of the first.
Hutchings continued his scoring spree to start the second quarter, followed by goals from Shane McGonagle (Haverhill, Mass.) and Nolen Beauregard (Walpole, Mass.), who netted his third goal of the season. Libby added his second of the game before Hutchings extended his first-half hat trick with two more goals to give him five by the break. Libby wrapped up the first half with his third goal, marking his fourth hat trick of the season, and giving UMass Boston the 14-0 lead at halftime.
The Beacons picked up right where they left off in the second half, with Libby scoring his fourth of the game. Hutchings added three more goals in the third quarter, while Sean Daly (Kingston, Mass.) netted his fourth goal of the season in between Hutchings' tallies. Carson Meczywor (Adams, Mass.) made it 19-0 with an unassisted goal at 11:15. The Huskies finally broke through with a man-up goal from Rhys Bridges, but Ryan Steckman-Buck (North Massapequa, N.Y.) quickly began the next Beacons run scoring his first of the day before Libby converted his fifth. Just 30 seconds later, Matthew Konareski (Guilford, CT.) scored his first of the game, closing out the third quarter with a 22-1 Beacons lead.
In the fourth, Steckman-Buck completed his first career hat trick, and Konareski added his second of the game, bringing his season total to nine. David Oman (Sandwich, Mass.) netted his second goal of the season, and Max Hamilton-Jones (Saratoga Springs, N.Y. )scored his first of the season and third of his career. Timothy Sullivan (Walpole, Mass.) capped off the day, sealing the Beacons' 29-1 win.
