Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men’s Lacrosse Falls in Overtime on Senior Day

Boston, MA (Apr. 19, 2025) – The UMass Boston men's lacrosse team came up just short in an overtime thriller on Senior Day, falling 14-13 to Colorado College in a back-and-forth battle at James Cotter Field.

How It Happened

It took nearly ten minutes for either team to break through offensively. Colorado College struck first with goals from Max Vota and Matt Hudson, and despite 11 first-quarter shots – three on goal – the Beacons found themselves trailing 3-0 after one.

UMass Boston responded quickly in the second quarter. Less than 30 seconds in, Sean Daly (Kingston, Mass.) put the Beacons on the board off an assist from senior Patrick Carey (North Andover, Mass.). Cole Allan (Falmouth, ME.) followed, and Jaden Cronin (East Bridgewater, Mass.) netted his second goal of the season to tie the game. The Tigers answered with goals from Vota and Karsten Nyarady before Carey scored his seventh of the year. The teams traded goals late in the half—Matt Hutchings (Mount Kisco, N.Y.) tallied his first of the game for the Beacons. Allan then scored his second of the game and 14th of the season, but the Beacons still trailed 8-6 heading into halftime.

Caesar Hendricks (Mashpee, Mass.) opened the third quarter with a goal less than a minute in. Seth Libby (Pomfret, CT.) and Hutchings followed with back-to-back scores to tie the game once more. The Tigers regained the lead before senior Timothy Sullivan (Walpole, Mass.) scored his 20th of the season to knot things up again. Despite the back-and-forth action, Colorado College held a one-goal edge at the end of the third.

Hendricks kicked off the fourth just as he did the third, scoring his second of the day and 12th of the season. Tyler Hilgert (Guilford, CT.) then gave UMass Boston its first lead of the game at the 7:12 mark, assisted by Sullivan. The Tigers quickly tied it and then pulled ahead, but senior Shane McGonagle (Haverhill, Mass.) delivered some Senior Day heroics with an unassisted goal to send the game to overtime tied at 13.

After nearly three minutes of scoreless overtime, Matt Hudson found the back of the net for Colorado College, securing the 14-13 sudden victory win for the Tigers.

Inside the Box Score

  • Both goalies stood tall, with UMass Boston's James Boldy (Hopedale, Mass.) and Colorado College's Jackson Lesher each recording 15 saves.

  • Holden Kuzniar (Georgetown, Mass.) anchored the defense with a career-high six caused turnovers and five ground balls.
