Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Beacons Rebound with Dominant Win Over Warriors

Boston, Mass. (April 13, 2025) — Matt Hutchings and Seth Libby combined for 13 goals to lead UMass Boston men's lacrosse to a commanding 24-8 victory over Eastern Connecticut State on Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened

Seth Libby (Pomfret, Conn.) opened the scoring just over a minute into the game with the first of his six goals on the day, sparking a five-goal run for the Beacons. Cole Allan (Falmouth, Maine), Matthew Konareski (Guilford, Conn.), and Shane McGonagle (Haverhill, Mass.) followed suit, with McGonagle netting his 10th of the season. Libby capped the early flurry with his second goal, giving the Beacons a 5-0 lead just three minutes in.

Although the Warriors managed to break through with their first goal, UMass Boston remained in control. The Beacons answered with six straight goals, including two more from Libby, one from Timothy Sullivan (Walpole, Mass.)—his 18th of the season—and the first of seven on the day from Matt Hutchings (Mount Kisco, N.Y.). UMass Boston ended the first quarter up 9-1.

Hutchings continued his dominant performance with two quick goals to open the second quarter, completing a first-half hat trick. Eastern Connecticut State added a second goal, but the Beacons responded with another six-goal run to take a 17-2 lead into halftime.

In the third quarter, Caesar Hendricks (Mashpee, Mass.) got things started, followed by goals from Konareski, Hutchings, and Patrick Dwinnells (Ashland, Mass.), who notched his second of the game and eighth of the season.

Hutchings added two more in the fourth quarter, capping off a career-high seven-goal outing with his 31st and 32nd goals of the season. Ryan Steckman-Buck (North Massapequa, N.Y.) closed the scoring for the Beacons with his fifth of the season and the team's 25th goal of the game.
