How It Happened
The Beacons wasted no time getting on the board, with Hannah Rich (Rockland, Mass.) scoring her first of three goals off an assist from Jamie McAleavey (Quincy, Mass.). Rae Alexander (Georgia, VT) then added her fourth goal of the season before Suffolk's Ally Colburn responded to put the Rams on the scoreboard. Rich netted her second goal, unassisted, followed by Teresa Sheedy's (Quincy, Mass.) first of two on the day, ending the first quarter with the Beacons ahead 4-1.
UMass Boston extended their lead early in the second quarter thanks to McAleavey, but Suffolk mounted a comeback, scoring three unanswered goals to pull within one. Sheedy's second goal of the game came before halftime to keep the Beacons in front, 6-4.
Suffolk came out strong in the third quarter, scoring the first three goals to take their first lead of the game. Ava Duffy (Quincy, MA.) pulled the Beacons even at seven, but Colburn's second goal allowed the Rams to regain the lead at 8-7. Kaitlyn Ondrick (Westfield, MA), assisted by Alexander, then scored to tie the game at eight as the third quarter came to a close.
The Beacons dominated the fourth quarter, scoring the next six goals unanswered. Ondrick led the charge with three goals, including the eventual game winner. McAleavey opened the scoring in the quarter, followed by Ondrick and Alexander's woman-up goals. After a brief pause, Rich added another goal while the Beacons had the player advantage, before Ondrick finished the scoring for UMass Boston, leading them to a 14-9 victory.
