Beacons Make History at Dean

Franklin, MA (March 4, 2025) — The UMass Boston women's lacrosse team is making a historic start to their second season as a program. With two games played, the Beacons have already surpassed their win total from their inaugural season and secured their first-ever back-to-back victories, defeating Dean College 13-7 on the road.

How It Happened

Dean College struck first with a goal during a woman-up opportunity, but the Beacons quickly responded with a strong first-quarter run to take the lead. Hannah Rich scored her first of four goals unassisted, leveling the score, before Ava Duffy, assisted by Jamie McAleavey, added her first of three goals on the day. Rich completed her first-quarter hat trick — her second of the season — to give the Beacons a 5-3 lead.

Natalie Peterson of Dean College pulled the Bulldogs to within one, but the Beacons answered with another four-goal run. McAleavey kicked things off, and Rae Alexander capped the stretch, giving UMass Boston a 9-4 lead.

Dean College scored again late in the third quarter to cut the Beacons' lead to 9-6. However, UMass Boston sealed the win in the fourth quarter as Rich netted her fourth goal, followed by goals from Teresa Sheedy and Duffy. Sheedy wrapped up the scoring for the Beacons with her third goal of the season, securing a 13-7 victory.

  • Goalkeepers Emerson Homa and Elizabeth Crowley combined for eight saves.
  • Sheedy and McAleavey were strong at the draw, with Sheedy winning four draws and McAleavey winning three.
  • The Beacons won the ground ball battle, with McAleavey leading all players with six.
