Boston, MA (Mar. 25, 2025) — The UMass Boston women's lacrosse team held the lead early but fell short, losing to Salem State 11-8.

How it Happened
The game was a back-and-forth battle throughout. The Vikings struck first at 11:30 in the opening quarter with a goal from Siobhan Smith. The Beacons quickly responded, with Angelina Mazzone (Beverly, Mass.) and Hannah Rich (Rockland, Mass.) each scoring to give UMass Boston a 2-1 lead by the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Salem State capitalized on a woman-up opportunity to tie the game at 2-2. However, Ava Duffy (Quincy, Mass.) answered with two consecutive goals, giving the Beacons a 4-2 lead. Salem State responded with two goals of their own before halftime, leveling the score at 4-4.
UMass Boston came out strong in the third quarter, scoring three unanswered goals. Rae Alexander (Georgia, VT.) netted her 10th goal of the season, followed by Teresa Sheedy's (Quincy, Mass.) first of two goals on the day. Hannah Rich then added her second goal of the game, bringing her season total to 27, to give the Beacons a 7-4 lead.
However, the Vikings rallied in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Beacons 6-1 to secure an 11-8 victory.
