How It Happened
The first quarter was a back-and-forth battle. Southern Maine's Kiaya Gatchell opened the scoring, but Rae Alexander (Georgia, VT.) answered quickly for the Beacons, netting her 11th goal of the season just over a minute later. The Huskies regained the lead soon after. Teresa Sheedy (Quincy, Mass.) then scored her 13th of the season unassisted to bring the teams even again. Elaina Hanselmann and Hannah Rich (Rockland, Mass.) each scored woman-up goals to close out the first quarter, which ended in a 3-3 tie.
In the second quarter, less than thirty seconds into play, Ava Duffy (Quincy, Mass.) gave the Beacons a 4-3 lead with a woman-up goal. However, that would be the last time UMass Boston found the back of the net, as Southern Maine went on to score seven unanswered goals, securing the 10-4 victory.
