Beacons Dominate Monarchs in 26-6 Victory

Darlington, SC (Mar. 19, 2025) — The UMass Boston Beacons men's lacrosse team wrapped up their spring break trip with a commanding 26-6 win over Methodist University on Wednesday afternoon.

How it Happened

The Beacons wasted no time, opening the game with three quick goals from Caesar Hendricks (Mashpee, Mass.), Matt Hutchings (Mount Kisco, N.Y.), and Seth Libby (Pomfret, CT.) within the first five minutes. Methodist's Cy Horner briefly interrupted the Beacons' momentum with a goal, but Cole Allan (Falmouth, ME.) answered with his fifth of the season, pushing UMass Boston to a 4-1 lead by the end of the first quarter.

Jack Schartner (Bolton, Mass.) added his first of three goals to begin the second quarter, assisted by Hendricks. Tyler Hilgert (Guilford, CT.) then found the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season, extending the lead to 6-1. Methodist scored back-to-back goals to close the gap, but the Beacons responded with a 12-goal run, sealing the game before halftime. Hutchings kicked off the streak with his second goal of the game, followed by Libby and Schartner each scoring their second goals. Shane McGonagle (Haverhill, Mass.) capped the first half with a goal, putting UMass Boston up 10-3.

The Beacons continued to dominate in the second half. McGonagle, assisted by Hutchings, scored his second goal of the game to start the third quarter. Patrick Carey (North Andover, Mass.), Duncan Youngclaus (Middleboro, Mass.), Hutchings, Dale Wills (Summit, N.J.), and Timothy Sullivan (Walpole, Mass.) all scored in succession. Schartner finished the quarter with a hat trick, his third of the season, bringing his career total to 14 goals.

Wills opened the fourth quarter with his second goal, part of a career-high four-goal performance. David Oman (Sandwich, Mass.) scored his second career goal, followed by Matthew Konareski (Guilford, CT.), who netted his first career goal. Patrick Dwinnells (Ashland, Mass.) then scored back-to-back goals, completing his second career hat trick.
