Keene, NH (Mar. 15, 2025) – The UMass Boston Beacons' winning streak came to an end on Saturday afternoon as they were defeated by the Keene State Owls, 13-7, in their Little East Conference opener.
How it Happened
The Beacons got off to a strong start, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter. Angelina Mazzone (Beverly, Mass.) opened the scoring, followed by Hannah Rich (Rockland, Mass.) less than 30 seconds later. Ava Duffy (Quincy, Mass.) then capitalized on a woman-up opportunity, assisted by Rich, to extend the Beacons' lead to three before Keene found the back of the net late in the period.
Mazzone scored her second goal of the game and fourth of the season early in the second quarter, pushing UMass Boston to a 4-1 advantage. However, Keene State responded with six unanswered goals, taking a 7-4 lead into the third quarter. Rich attempted to halt the Owls' momentum, scoring her fifth hat trick of the season, but Keene's late surge proved too much for the Beacons, who ultimately fell 13-7.
