Beacons Head North to Keene, N.H. for LEC Dual with Owls

BOSTON, MA (February 7, 2025)  -- The UMass Boston women's basketball team (8-13, 5-7 Little East Conference) will travel north with four games remaining in the LEC regular season against the Keene State Owls (9-11, 5-6 LEC) for a 1:00 p.m. LEC showdown.

The Beacons were victorious (50-47) in a thrilling three-point win from the Clark Gymnasium earlier this season in January. In the game, the Beacs held the Owls to 25% (14-55 field goal) shooting, and sophomore forward Sabanna Berrios (Providence, R.I.) poured in her third consecutive double-double with 14 points, 15 rebounds, and four assists for another dominant showing. Sophomore Vanessa Bucha (Aschnuet, Mass.) scored 14 points, including four triples. The Beacons gained the edge at the free-throw line, converting 12 of 16 to ice the victory.

UMass Boston's most recent W came from Boston, MA, against the Western Connecticut State Wolves (60-44). The Owls enter Saturday's contest on a two-game win streak over two weeks, with their most recent loss coming against the University of Southern Maine (58-47).

The Beacons score 58 points per game, averaging 37.2 rebounds, 11.4 assists, and 10.6 steals. Berrios leads all scorers with 252 points in 19 games (13.3 PPG) and rebounders with 165 (113 defensive, 52 offensive, 8.7 RPG). Junior guardTatiannahFevry (Dracut, Mass.) follows Berrios with 173 points in 21 games and leads the team with an LEC third-highest 49 steals (2.3 SPG). Junior Sibayla Jensen (Portland, Ore.) leads the team as the primary point guard with 57 assists. Bucha is the team's leading shooter from outside, with 24 makes from beyond the arch.

The Owls score 61.7 points per game and average 35.4 rebounds, 8.9 assists, 8.5 steals, and 2.7 blocks per game. The Owls have a pair of double-digit scoring threats in the LEC's leading scorer, Brynn Rautiola, with 19.6 PPG, and Valarie Luizzi, with 12.2 PPG. Luizzi and Ruby Desaro attribute a combined 3.4 SPG. Kenzie Durnford is the Owls' leading glass-cleaner with 6.0 RPG.
