Beacons Start 2025 Season with Win

Boston, MA (Feb. 28, 2025) — The UMass Boston women's lacrosse team kicked off their 2025 season with a strong performance, securing an 11-7 victory over Fitchburg State.

How It Happened:

Fitchburg State opened the scoring, but UMass Boston responded quickly with Rae Alexander's unassisted goal to cut the Falcons' lead in half early in the first quarter. The Beacons then began to find their rhythm in the second, starting with Ava Duffy's unassisted goal and followed by Alexander's second of the game. Hannah Rich gave the Beacons their first lead of the night before Fitchburg's Delaney Ponder leveled the score heading into halftime.

Coming out of the break, UMass Boston didn't waste any time regaining the lead as Duffy scored her second of the game just 26 seconds into the third quarter. Autumn Tibbets responded for Fitchburg to once again tie the game, but the Beacons pulled ahead with a goal by Angelina Mazzone and held onto their lead for the remainder of the game, finishing 11-7.

Inside the Box Score:

  • Hat-Tricks: Three Beacons ended the night with hat-tricks: Hannah Rich, Ava Duffy, and Rae Alexander.

Coach's Corner:

"It was a great game. The team played as a full unit from start to finish, never letting up even when the other team scored and really focused on the next play. Both goalies did well in goal and came up with some big saves," said Head Coach Hannah Khin.

The Beacons will stay on the road for their next game, facing off against Dean College in Franklin, Massachusetts, on Tuesday, March 4th at 3:00 PM.
