Women’s Basketball to Host ‘Think Pink’ Game in Season Finale Versus Spartans

BOSTON, MA (February 18, 2025) – The Beacons' women's basketball team (9-15, 6-9 Little East Conference) will play the final game of the LEC 2024-25 Regular Season this Wednesday, February 19, at 5:00 p.m. against the Vermont State University Castleton Spartans (7-16, 3-11 LEC) in the Beacons' celebratory 'Think Pink' game.

Looking Ahead:
As it currently stands, UMass Boston is the sixth seed in the conference, and will likely play on the road against either the University of Southern Maine (14-9, 10-4 LEC) or the Eastern Connecticut State Warriors (10-13, 9-5 LEC) in the first round of the LEC Postseason Tournament based on the final rankings following Saturday's contests. 

History:
The Beacons are 3-4 over their last seven against the Spartans, with their most recent win coming in February of last season when they won in a two-point thriller (57-55). Against the Spartans in Boston, the Beacons are 3-2. In 2018, the Beacons took the first-ever meeting between the two teams in a 55-48 victory from the Clark Gymnasium. 

This Season: UMass Boston
The Beacons enter Wednesday's game hot off a 57-38 victory against the Plymouth State Panthers on their home court. The Beacs have won three significant games at home this season against Keene State (50-47), Western Connecticut State (60-44), and Saturday's win against the Panthers. Earlier this season, the Beacons scored 70 points against the Spartans in their road effort, led by 24 points from Sabanna Berrios (Providence, R.I.) and 21 points from Vanessa Bucha (Aschnuet, Mass.). The Beacons score 57.8 points per game, and average36.5 rebounds,11.3 assists, 10.4 steals, and 3.0 blocks per game. Offensively they are led by Berrios, who leads the team in points and rebounds, with 13.3 PPG and 5.8 RPG. In 22 games this season, Berrios has recorded eight double-doubles with points and rebounds, including a stretch where she tallied at least 14+ points and 11+ rebounds. Berrios has scored 293 total points this season as the go-to option for the Beacs. Bucha remains the top floor spacer for the Beacons with a team-high 24 three-pointers made. Behind Berrios, Samora Merchant (Brookfield, Conn.) also leads the charge on the glass with 143 total rebounds in 23 games (6.2 RPG). Sibayla Jensen (Portland, Ore.) is the team's primary point guard with 65 total assists this season. Jensen and Tatiannah Fevry (Dracut, Mass.) are the top two defensive pests for UMass Boston, as Jensen averages 2.0 steals per game, and Fevry leads all Beacons with 2.2 SPG (53 total in 23 games.)

Entering Wednesday's game, the Spartans have dropped the last four of five games, with their most recent win coming against the Western Connecticut State Wolves (85-78) in Vermont. The Spartans are scoring 60.3 PPG, and average 41.9 RPG, 12.3 APG, 5.3 SPG, and 2.3 BPG. The Spartans have a trio of double-digit nightly scorers, led by Stasia Epler with 14.2 PPG, followed by Emily Adams and Emily Dingmon with 12.6 PPG and 12.7 PPG. Dingmon is the primary point averaging a team-high 2.8 assists per game, and also rakes in a team-high 10.2 rebounds per game.
