Boston, MA (Feb. 14, 2025) --- The UMass Boston women's basketball team will take on the Panthers of Plymouth State University Saturday, February 15th at 12pm as UMass Boston Athletics celebrates National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) game.

The Beacons hold the historical advantage over the Panthers, winning their most recent meeting this season by a score of 65-58 and winning 8 of their last 10 matchups. In that game, Sabanna Berrios led the Beacons in scoring with 16 points followed by Ashleigh Lagor with 14. Berrios ended the night with a double-double also pulling down a team high 13 rebounds. Hailey Malozzi from Plymouth led all scorers with 21 points.
NGWSD Clinic
National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD), established in 1987, celebrates the achievements of women and girls in sports while encouraging further participation. To honor NGWSD, the Beacons will host a Youth Clinic from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., where children will have the opportunity to explore a variety of sports, including volleyball, soccer, basketball, and softball. The stations will be led by Beacons' coaches and athletes.
After the clinic, participants will take part in a mental skills workshop led by Elise Pelletier from Strong Girls United, alongside other student-athletes. The event will conclude with certificate presentations, and participants are invited to attend the Beacons' women's basketball game against Plymouth State at 12 p.m.
NGWSD Celebration
In celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day, UMass Boston athletics will feature an all-female broadcast and production team, table crew, and officiating crew for the game. Amanda Keane will serve as the voice of the broadcast, joined live by various coaches, athletes, and staff members, with a special guest appearance from Elise Pelletier of Strong Girls United.
Additionally, the UMass Boston women's tennis team will be recognized at halftime for winning their third consecutive LEC title, which they secured this past fall after defeating Rhode Island College.
Give Aways and Promotions
The first 50 fans will receive a UMass Boston Athletics Beanie. There will also be posters to celebrate NGWSD, featuring all our women's varsity teams that will be free for fans.
