Women’s Basketball Opens Season with Statement 85–61 Road Win Over Mitchell College

NEW LONDON, Conn. (November 8, 2025) – The UMass Boston women's basketball team (1-0) opened its 2025–26 campaign in dominant fashion, defeating Mitchell College 85–61 on the road. Five Beacons finished in double figures, showcasing a fast-paced, balanced offense in head coach Heather Jacobs' season debut.

Jordis Tautalatasi (Springfield, Mass.) scored the first bucket of the season off a fastbreak initiated by a steal from Tatiannah Fevry (Dracut, Mass.), sparking an early Beacons surge. Sibayla Jensen (Portland, Ore.) extended the first-quarter lead to nine, and UMass Boston built an 11-point advantage midway through the second before heading into halftime up 47–38. The Beacons shot a red-hot 59% (19-of-32) from the field in the first half, including five made threes.

First-year guard Kaydie Sturm (Boston, Mass.) knocked down a triple late in the third quarter to push the lead to 15. The Beacons closed the frame on a commanding 17–4 run to enter the fourth up 20 — a cushion they would not relinquish. UMass Boston maintained full control the rest of the way, sealing the 85–61 season-opening victory.

Five players reached double digits: Sabanna Berrios (Providence, R.I.), Tautalatasi, and first-year forward Madison Haggett (Londonderry, N.H.) each scored 12 points, with Tautalatasi going 6-of-7 from the floor. Turner-Foster (Mashpee, Mass.) and Strum also added 11 apiece. Ashleigh Lagor (Millbury, Mass.) led the team with six rebounds, Fevry recorded five steals, and Jensen dished a team-high eight assists in the win.

UMass Boston returns to Clark Gymnasium on Wednesday, November 12, at 7:00 p.m. for its home opener.
