BOSTON, MA (November 19, 2025) – Powered by a career-high 28 points from junior forward Sabanna Berrios (Providence, R.I.), the UMass Boston women's basketball team (3-0) earned its third straight victory to open the season, defeating Regis College (1-4) on Wednesday night at the Clark Gymnasium.
Senior guard Sibayla Jensen (Portland, Ore.) opened the scoring for the Beacons with the game's first basket. After briefly falling behind midway through the first quarter, a three-pointer from first-year guard Madison Haggett (Londonderry, N.H.) sparked a 9-0 run that pushed UMass Boston ahead 24-17 after one. The Beacons shot a blistering 64% from the field (11-17) in the opening frame, including two makes from deep.
Regis battled back in the second quarter, pulling within three before the Beacons closed the half with an 11-4 run to take a 10-point lead into the break.
UMass Boston controlled the pace the rest of the way, maintaining a lead of at least seven for the entire second half. The Beacons outscored Regis 19-16 in the third quarter and played the Pride even at 23-23 in the fourth to secure their third consecutive win to start the season.
Berrios led all scorers with 28 points on an efficient 13-20 shooting (65%) while adding eight rebounds and two blocks. Senior forward Kayla Jackson (Saugus, Mass.) anchored the glass with a team-high nine rebounds and chipped in eight points on 4-5 shooting. Jensen orchestrated the offense with a career-high eight assists, along with four steals and 11 points.
UMass Boston continues nonconference play on Sunday, traveling to Johnson, Vermont, to face the Vermont State University Johnson Badgers at 1:00 p.m.
