BOSTON, MA. (January 24, 2025) – The Beacons' (6-11, 3-5 Little East Conference) women's basketball team will begin the second half of the 16-game LEC season on Saturday, January 25, at 3:30 p.m. against the Eastern Connecticut State Warriors in Willimantic, CT.
The Beacons are 3-4 on the road this season, including significant wins against the Western Connecticut State Wolves (68-57), the Fitchburg State Falcons (95-54), and the Plymouth State Panthers (65-58). In the Beacons' 53-64 effort against the Warriors earlier this season from the Clark Gymnasium, three student-athletes recorded double-digit scoring figures, led by
Hialeah Turner-Foster (Mashpee, Mass.) and first-year
Ashleigh Lagor (Millbury, Mass.) each with 13 points, and sophomore
Vanessa Bucha (Aschnuet, Mass.) with 10 points. Turner-Foster turned in six steals in the effort, a team-high among the team's 17 total.
- This season, the Beacons are scoring 58.8 points per game and average 37.2 rebounds, 11.5 assists, 10.9 steals and 2.8 blocks per game. Sophomore forward Sabanna Berrios (Providence, R.I.) leads the team offensively with 12.1 PPG and 8.3 rebounds per game on the glass. Berrios has tallied five double-doubles with points and rebounds in her past six games. She tallied a new career-best 24 points against the Vermont State University Castleton Spartans in the Beacons' previous matchup. Junior guard Tatiannah Fevry (Dracut, Mass.) averages 8.3 PPG and a third-most 2.4 steals per game in the LEC. Fevry sets the defensive intensity for each game and has cemented herself as one of the conference's premiere perimeter defenders. Bucha continues to settle into a shooting groove, as she has laced 12 makes from deep in her past six appearances for the Beacons. This season, she leads all UMass Boston shooters with 21 field goals from beyond the arch. Lagor has made solid contributions to the offense in her rookie season, averaging a third-best 8.5 PPG for UMass Boston. Junior captain Sibayla Jensen (Portland, Ore.) continues to serve her teammates as the primary point guard, dishing out an average of 2.5 assists per night.
- The Warriors score 59.4 points per game and average 38.5 rebounds, 12.1 assists, 5.6 steals and 2.9 blocks per game. Offensively, they are led by senior forward Taylor Salato, who has scored 339 points in 17 games (19.9 PPG).
