BOSTON, MA (January 21, 2025) – The UMass Boston women's basketball team (6-10, 3-4 Little East Conference) seeks their third win in four games as they hit the road to play the Vermont State University Castleton Spartans (5-11, 1-6 LEC) on Wednesday for a 5:00 p.m. LEC showdown.

The Beacons have won the last two matchups with the Spartans, as they went 2-0 against them in the previous season. 2024 saw UMass Boston win in Boston (54-47), and on the road in a thrilling 57-55 victory in Castleton, VT.

This Season:

• The Beacons are an even 3-3 on the road this year, with their most recent victory coming against the Plymouth State Panthers on the road. There, the Beacons had three players in double-figure scoring, led by sophomore Sabanna Berrios (Providence, R.I.) with a double-double in points (16) and rebounds (13), her fifth of the season. Their most significant win of the season came against the Fitchburg State Falcons on the road, where the Beacons tallied a record 95 points (the most points scored in a game under Head Coach Heather Jacobs) against the Falcons' 54, for a 41-point offensive onslaught.  The Beacons score 58.2 points per game and average 37.6 rebounds, 11.8 assists, 10.9 steals, and 2.7 blocks per game. Offensively, Berrios and sophomore rookie Hialeah Turner-Foster (Mashpee, Mass.) lead the scoring efforts with 11.3 and 10.3 PPG respectively. Junior guard Tatiannah Fevry (Dracut, Mass.) contributes 8.1 points per contest, and averages a team-high 2.4 steals per game, ranking third in the LEC for steals per game, as she continues her premier level of perimeter defense this campaign. Sophomore Vanessa Bucha (Aschnuet, Mass.) remains the hot hand from a distance for UMass Boston, as she leads the team in three-point shooting. This season, she has drained a team-high 18 from downtown, and converts 34.5% of her shots from deep.  

 

• The Spartans score 57.6 points per game, and average 42.9 rebounds, 12.3 assists, 4.9 steals, and 2.3 blocks per game. Offensively they are led by junior guard Stasia Epler with 14 PPG.
