BOSTON, MA (April 27, 2024) – The UMass Boston softball team defends the UMB Softball Field once again on Saturday afternoon against the Rams of Framingham State in a non-conference doubleheader, as the Beacons secure their 25th win of the season.
Game One
Alexis Fleischer led the game on the mound for the Beacons and pitched a total of four innings, while striking out seven of the 26 batters she faced.
Emily Doble came in to close things out in game one, as she took command on the bump for the final two innings, striking out three of the final eight batters, while holding the Rams to just one hit in her stretch.
First-year
Hayley Krockta led the way for the Beacons from the plate, going 2-3 with a walk and one run scored in the effort. Sophomore
Sofie Richland and junior
Amauri English also contributed two hits each, with Richland coming across to score one of the Beacons' six in game one.
In the bottom of the first inning, Krockta doubled to right field to bring home senior Hayley Tilberry. Senior
Kaitlyn Sawyer added a single to right field, as she cleared sophomore
Lauren Miner and Krockta to level the scoring at three runs for each side.
In the bottom of the second, Krockta added her second RBI of the game in the form of a sacrifice fly out to center field that was deep enough to score sophomore
Gracie Granger from third base, as Granger brought the Beacs back to within one run heading into the final stretch of innings.
In the bottom of the seventh inning and down by one run, the Beacs tied the game up at five runs each following a Rams' error at second base that allowed Richland to score the tying run.
The Beacons walked off game one following another error at second base following Sawyer's groundball, as all runners were safe and the game concluded at 6-5 in favor of UMass.
Game Two:
Senior
Bri Melchionda started game two on the mound for the Beacons and went the distance for all seven innings on the bump. Melchionda allowed just six hits against the 28 batters she faced, as she picks up her 11
th win of the season.
First-year
Ella Delisle went 100% from the dish today with three hits and two runs scored in three at bats with a run driven in, as Delisle was credited with three of the beacons' four runs in the game two victory of Framingham State.
In the bottom of the second inning Delisle's single to left field would bring home the first run of the game, as Miner would come across to score unearned. Delisle would come across to double the lead following senior
Lauryn Bethea's ground out to second base.
The fourth inning produced the final runs of the game, as the Beacs added to more for insurance that would help put them over the top in game two. First-year
Gracie Granger produced the first run of the inning following her single to center field that developed plenty of space for Delisle to come around to score from third. The final run of the game came from Richland's drive to center field that would bring home Bethea for
the final run of the non-conference outing.
With the doubleheader sweep the Beacons improved to 25-9 overall this season, with the Beacons' next test on Tuesday, April 30 from Gorham Maine, as they are scheduled for a Little East Conference doubleheader against the Huskies of the University of Southern Maine.
