NEWTON, Mass. - UMass Boston Women's Lacrosse played the most competitive game in the brief history of their program on Saturday. The Beacons fell behind Curry College 9-5, but put together a 5-1 run to tie the game before eventually falling on a last minute goal, 11-10.

HOW IT HAPPENED
For the second game in a row,
Teresa Sheedy helped the Beacons get off on the right foot early. After scoring the opening goal of their game against Fitchburg State, Sheedy supplied an assist to
Angelina Mazzone to take a 1-0 lead over Curry.
After nearly 15 minutes of shutout goalkeeping from freshman
Laura Falandys, the Colonels scored a goal with just a second remaining to send the game tied 1-1 into the second quarter.
In the second, it was
Emily Pearl scoring her third goal of the season to reclaim the lead, 2-1.
Brianna Damske assisted the Pearl goal for her first helper of the year.Â
After a pair of Curry scores swung the one-point advantage in their favor, Sheedy rang the bell herself, scoring her first goal of the day to knot the game at 3-3 with under five minutes remaining before halftime.
The Colonels touched the back of the net twice before halftime, but the Beacons went right back on the attack after intermission. Making good on
Liz Kramp's first collegiate assist, Pearl slipped another past the Curry goalkeeper.
Jamie McAleavey followed up by striking on an eight-meter attempt, evening the scoreboard at 5-5.
A 4-0 Curry College run had the Beacons trailing 9-5 with less than 20 minutes remaining in the game. Providing a much needed spark before the end of the third quarter, Damske dished out another apple, this time setting up Mazzone's second score of the day to cut the deficit to 9-6.
Opening the fourth, Mazzone treated fans to a spell of deja vu, reconnecting with Sheedy to wrap up her first career hat trick. Shortly thereafter, the Colonels once again granted McAleavey a free position shot from the eight-meter line. Once again, the sophomore made good, sliding the ball past the goalkeeper for her second score of the day and her fourth of the season.
Curry College's Grayson Goolgasian interrupted the UMass Boston run with her fourth goal of the day to stretch the Colonels' lead back to two, 10-8. Pearl, however, was quick with the response, making good on her third goal and Sheedy's third assist of the day.
With just over a minute and half to play, a Curry College foul granted
Mia Boyd a free position shot with a chance to tie the game. Boyd did just that, beating the goalie to knot the score at 10-10.
Though overtime appeared a real possibility in the Beacons' search for their first-ever victory, a penalty granted the Colonels a player-up opportunity, paving the way for Goolgasian's fourth goal of the day.
