HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beacons held a lead for the first time in program history (two games) when
Teresa Sheedy snuck a ball past the Fitchburg State goalkeeper for the game's opening score. Sheedy's second goal in as many games put the Beacons up 1-0 before two full minutes had ticked off the clock.
After the Falcons tied the game at one,
Mia Boyd struck for the fourth time in the young season, reclaiming the lead for the Beacons with seven minutes to play in first. A pair of Fitchburg goals swung the one-point advantage their way, but Sheedy's second goal of the quarter knotted the score at 3-3 with a minute to play.
The Beacons offense did not enjoy the same success in the second and third that they did in the first.
Emily Pearl's second goal of the season was their only score before the fourth, while the Falcons touched the net 10 times across the two periods.
In the fourth quarter,
Leah Bosch made her season debut in net, relieving the starter
Laura Falandys. She saved one shot to keep the Falcons off the board in the final frame.
On the offensive end, the Beacons racked up three scores in the fourth quarter.
Jamie McAleavey and
Hannah Rich posted their second scores of the season while captain
Brianna Damske got her first collegiate goal.
