BOSTON, MA (March 18, 2024) -- The UMass Boston women's lacrosse squad was shorthanded due to illness today, yet still brought their A-game against the Lions of Emerson College, from the Lions' home turf of Rotch Field in Boston, Massachusetts as the Beacons fell 23-12 following four quarters on Monday night, led by four goals apiece by sophomore midfielder
Mia Boyd, and sophomore attacker
Emily Pearl.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Beacons opened the scoring at the 13:24 mark off a free position shot by Mia Boyd, but Emerson answered with six unanswered goals. Lauren Longstreet scored three of the six, and the hot streak was capped by a goal from the Lions' Ava DelliCompagni with 8:20 remaining. The first quarter would end with the Lions leading 10-4.
- UMass Boston's Angelina Mazzone found the back of the net at 13:30 to open the second quarter. Mazzone would score again off a free position shot at the 4:34 mark. Mia Boyd and Teresa Sheedy also scored for the Beacs in the quarter. The score was 16-8 in Emerson's favor at the halftime buzzer.
- Emerson scored one goal in the third quarter, coming from Ava Selby at the 7:21 mark, who was assisted by DelliCompagni. The Beacon's would score three in the period, with two coming from Emily Pearl with 6:57 and 2:26 remaining and the third being credited to Mia Boyd at 1:42. Boyd also assisted on Pearl's second goal to cut the Emerson lead to 17-11 heading into the fourth quarter.
- The Lions shook off the rust in the fourth quarter, scoring five unanswered goals to go up 22-11 at the start the final period. UMass Boston's lone goal of the quarter came from a free position shot by Mia Boyd with 3:22 remaining, while Ava Selby scored the final goal for the Lions at 2:17 off an assist from Danehy to make the final score 23-12.Â
