Women's Lacrosse Silences Regis Offense, Fall 8-5

WESTON, Mass. - A hard-fought defensive battle against Regis College ended in an 8-5 defeat for UMass Boston Women's Lacrosse. Goalkeeper Laura Falandys let up just eight goals, becoming the first player to hold a team to a single-digit scoring total in a full game.

UMass Boston (0-5)
Regis College (4-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED
The opening quarter saw the Beacons' freshman goalie tested right away. Flanders held her own through the first 15 minutes, saving three Regis shots. On the other end, UMass Boston had a host of opportunities of their own, but could not capitalize on three free position shots. After one quarter, the score remained 0-0.

The Pride struck first in the second period, sneaking one past Falandys to take a 1-0 advantage. The Beacons, however, were quick to respond. Mia Boyd moved into sole possession of the team lead with her eighth goal of the season, a free position shot to knot the game at 1-1.

In just over two minutes following Boyd's goal, the squads traded scores once again. Regis held a 2-1 lead for less than a minute before Angelina Mazzone went unassisted for her fourth score of the year. The Pride would score once more in the second to take a narrow 3-2 advantage into halftime.

A quiet start to the second half gave way to back-to-back goals in rapid succession for Regis' two top scorers, stretching the lead to 5-2 with six minutes to play in the third.

As quickly as the Pride had tripled their lead, the Beacons cut it right back down to one. A pair of standout women's ice hockey players for the Beacons, Boyd and Liz Kramp went back-to-back to register their ninth and first career goals, respectively.

A late Regis score in the third stretched the lead to 6-4, but kept the Beacons well within striking distance.

A pair of early goals in the fourth quarter stretched the gap to 8-4, and Emily Pearl's eighth goal of the season could not get the rally started for the Beacons, who fell by a final of 8-5.
