Rookie Majewski Saves Senior Night

BOSTON, Mass. - UMass Boston Women's Ice Hockey celebrated senior night on Friday, but it was a freshman in Jenna Majewski who saved the day for the Beacons. Her goal in the final minute of the game secured a 2-1 victory over conference rival Johnson & Wales University, their eighth in their last nine games.

THE BASICS
UMass Boston 2, Johnson & Wales University 1

UMass Boston (11-10-3, 10-5-2 NEHC)
Johnson & Wales University (5-15-2, 4-12-1 NEHC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
After honoring Hannah MacDougall, Katie Wilbert, and Victoria Kennedy during their pregame senior night ceremony, the Beacons quickly found themselves in a hole. Johnson & Wales' Alexia Labre sent in the game's opening goal to give the Wildcats a 1-0 advantage.

Just as quickly as they fell behind, the Beacons were able to knot the game back up. After a pair of Liz Kramp shots were savedin front of the goal, Katie Wilbert slid the puck in the direction of Allie Reifler who turned on her fourth goal of the season. After one period of play the score was tied 1-1.

The game turned into a defensive battle in the second period. Kennedy saved all nine shots she faced from the Wildcats while JWU's Sofia Tomayo knocked down 10. Even a two-skater advantage during overlapping penalties for the Beacons could not help Johnson & Wales slip one past Kennedy.

The third period saw more of the same with both goalies standing on their heads in net. The Beacons fired off 14 shots in the first 19 minutes of the frame, all of which were saved. Their 15th however, made its way through. Not a moment too soon, Majewski slid the puck past Tomayo for an unassisted, game-winning goal.
