Women's Basketball Celebrates Three Seniors, Falls to UMass Dartmouth

BOSTON, Mass. - UMass Boston Women's Basketball honored their three graduating seniors - Keriann Farina, Alexah Potter, and Paige Olliverre - before hosting UMass Darmouth on Wednesday night. The Beacons limited the Corsairs in the first half before eventually falling by a final score of 65-37.

THE BASICS
UMass Boston 37, UMass Dartmouth 65

UMass Boston (4-17, 2-12 LEC)
UMass Dartmouth (19-3, 11-2 LEC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
A low-scoring opening quarter saw UMass Dartmouth clinging to a narrow 5-2 advantage with four minutes left to play. The Beacons were able to cut the lead down to two points, but the Corsairs got the final word, stretching it out to four in the final minute, 9-5.

Mia Molinari's layup to open up the scoring in the second was quickly matched by the Corsairs, but an Olliverre free throw and a Green three-pointer knotted the game up at 11-11 with just over seven and a half minutes remaining.

A four-minute scoring drought for both teams gave way to a UMass Dartmouth basket that kicked off an 11-0 run to finish off the quarter. The Corsairs took a 22-11 lead into the halftime break.

In the opening minutes of the third quarter, a ¾ stretch at the line for Tatiannah Fevry and a made jumpshot from Potter got the Beacons back in the contest, cutting their deficit to 24-16. A 16-3 run for the Corsairs, however, stretched the gap to 21 points.

An Olliverre three-pointer cut the score to a 17-point game in the opening minutes of the fourth, but UMD was able to maintain a lead of at least 25 points for most of the remaining time.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • In 16 minutes off the bench, Skyeler Sandison grabbed a game-high eight rebounds, seven of which came on the defensive end
  • 24 of the Beacons 37 points came from their bench players
