Beacons to Host Weekend Conference Matchup vs Warriors

BOSTON, Mass. (December 6,  2024)—The Beacons women's basketball team springs back into Little East Conference action this Saturday against the Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors from the Clark Athletics Center at 1:00 p.m.

  • The Beacons have historically struggled against ECSU, only winning 10 games in 85 meetings. In 2018, the Beacons picked up back-to-back wins against the Warriors 79-72, and 61-56. Since then the Warriors have won the last 11 matchups against UMass Boston. The Beacons are averaging 53.6 PPG against them.
This Season:
  • The Beacons have picked up two wins this season, one in an offensive blowout against the Saint Elizabeth University Eagles (84-55) and one against Western Connecticut State (68-57). As a unit the Beacons are averaging 56.1 PPG (34% FG, 24% 3PT, 66 % FT), 35.8 rebounds, and 11.4 assists per game. Sophomore rookie Hialeah Turner-Foster (Mashpee, Mass.) Continues to shine in her role on the bench, providing the offensive with a spark of energy. In the last four games, she has led the Beacons in scoring off the bench with double-digit scoring figures, including a career-high 15 points against the Wolves of Western Connecticut. Sophomore forward Sabanna Berrios leads all UMass Boston scorers with 9.1 PPG to go with 5.9 rebounds per game. Junior guard Tatiannah Fevry (Dracut, Mass.) is currently tied for the conference steals per game leader with 2.8 per game (22 steals through eight games played.). Junior captain Sibayla Jensen (Portland, Ore.) leads the team in assists at the primary offensive architect. Sophomore forward Samora Merchant (Brookfield, Conn.) is leading the efforts on the glass with seven per game to go with 5.0 PPG. In the win vs Saint Elizabeth, Merchant had a career game with 17 points and 15 rebounds, since then she has established herself as the main glass cleaner for the squad. Sophomore Vaness Bucha (Aschnuet, Mass.) is shooting the lights out this season, leading the team in 3PT % with 53.8% from downtown (7/13). First-year Ashleigh Lagor (Millbury, Mass.) has also shown flashes of elite post-offense in her established role, averaging 8.1 PPG in 25,8 minutes per contest.
  • The Warriors are 2-7 to start the season with wins against the University of New England (61-50), and the University of Southern Maine (50-40). As a unit, they are averaging 59.6 points (37.8% FG, 19.8% 3PT, 75.8% FT), 38.2 rebounds, and 12.7 assists per game. The Warriors have a pair of double-digit nightly scorers, with senior forward Taylor Salato leading the conference in scoring with 19.4 PPG, and sophomore forward Marissa Nudd with 14.8 PPG. Salato is also leading the Warriors on the glass with 9.0 RPG.
