Men’s Basketball Hosts Weekend Conference Battle

BOSTON, MASS. (December 6, 2024) – The Beacons' men's basketball team looks to bounce back on Saturday against the Eastern Connecticut State Warriors in a Little East Conference matchup at 3:00 p.m. following a heartbreaking overtime loss on Wednesday against the Rhode Island College Anchormen that snapped a four-game win streak.

  • The Beacons are 25-62 against the Warriors historically, with UMass Boston coming out on top in the last two games by a slim margin (66-60, 72-71.), as we can likely expect another thriller in the Clark Athletics Center this weekend. In the last ten meetings between the two, the Beacons hold the advantage 6-4, while averaging 68.78 points per game.
This Season
  • After dropping the first game against Salve Regina, the Beacons won four straight before falling at home in overtime to the Rhode Island College Anchormen. As a unit, the Beacons are averaging 79 points (43.8% FG, 39.6% 3PT, 60% FT.) 35.7 rebounds, 12.8 assists, and 11.3 steals per game. First-year forward Cameron Perkins (Danbury, Conn.) still leads the conference in scoring with 27 PPG in five games. Last contest against the Anchormen, Perkins recorded a career-high 35 points in the effort. Sophomore forward Xavier McKenzie (Lowell, Mass.) is second on the team in scoring with 14.8 PPG, to go with 3.7 rebounds per game. Senior captain Emanuel Zayas (Hollywood, Fla.) also contributes double-digit points on a nightly basis (14.5 PPG), while also serving as the primary playmaker for the Beacons, dishing out just under four assists per contest. Junior guard Hector Perez (Easton, Mass.) is shooting the lights out from downtown, leading the Beacons in 3PT shooting with seven makes in 13 attempts (53%).
  • Eastern Connecticut State was undefeated (6-0) before dropping it's LEC opener against the Southern Maine Huskies on Wednesday (December 4.). The team is averaging 69 points (46.1% FG, 33% 3PT, 68% FT.) 35.9 rebounds, 16 assists, and six steals per game. The Warriors have a trio of scorers that combine for 46.6 points per night, led by Jalen Hamblin (16.6 PPG), Dominick Dao (15.5 PPG), and Julian Sanchez (14.4 PPG). Sanchez is leading the effort on the glass with just under nine rebounds per meeting, and Hamblin is averaging 1.1 steals and 1.7 blocks per game. Junior guard Michael Carothers leads the offense in assists per game with 4.4.
