BOSTON, MASS. (December 2, 2024) – The UMass Boston women's basketball team is set to host the Anchorwomen of Rhode Island College on Wednesday, December 3 at 5:00 p.m. from the Clark Athletics Center in the Beacons' Little East Conference home-opener. UMass Boston enters Wednesday hot off a win against the Western Connecticut State Wolves on the road (68-57) in the LEC opener on Sunday, December 1.

- In 83 matchups with the Anchorwomen, the Beacons have secured 19 wins since the first meeting in 1982. The last UMass Boston victory against Rhode Island College came before the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019-20, when the Beacs won by one point on the road. The previous meeting in 2023 saw the Anchorwomen outshine the Beacons 55-71 from the Clark Athletics Center. UMass Boston averages 56.7 points cumulatively through their matchups with RIC.
This Season:
- The Beacons are 2-5 to start the season, with wins against Saint Elizabeth University (84-55), and Western Connecticut State (68-57). Sophomore rookie Hialeah Turner-Foster (Mashpee, Mass.) was selected as this week's LEC Rookie of the Week, for leading the team in scoring off the bench with 14 points per game in two games last week. The Beacons have three scorers with just under 10 PPG averages. Sophomore forward Sabanna Berrios (Providence, R.I.) averages 9.1 PPG with six rebounds per contest. Junior captain Sibayla Jensen (Portland, Ore.) leads the effort on both ends of the floor with 9.4 PPG, and 2.6 steals per game, both team-highs as a two-way leader for the Beacons. First-year post-up artist Ashleigh Lagor (Millbury, Mass.) averages just under nine PPG (8.4). Junior guard Tatiannah Fevry (Dracut, Mass.) is tied with Jensen on the defensive front, averaging 2.6 SPG. Jensen and Fevry are both tied with 18 total steals this season, with Fevry owning the game-high advantage, as she added five steals in the matchup vs Brandeis on November 13, and again against Lasell on November 27. Sophomore forward Samora Merchant (Brookfield, Conn.) leads the effort on the glass with just under seven rebounds (6.9) per game, to go with five PPG.
- The Anchorwomen are 3-3 to start the season, with wins over Springfield College (58-52), the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) (69-62), and Albertus Magnus (72-50). As a unit, the Anchorwomen are averaging 62.7 PPG (39% FG, 27% 3PT), 42.7 RPG, 12 APG, and 5.7 SPG with 4.7 blocks. Offensively, they are led by Madison Medbury and Angelina Nardolillo with 16 and 15 PPG. Nardolillo leads the effort on the glass with an LEC-leading 11.7 RPG. Medbury is the primary playmaker with five APG, and also leads the defensive effort with 2.5 steals per game.
