MARSHFIELD, MASS. (December 2, 2024) – The New England Hockey Conference announced the winners of the conference's weekly recognition awards for the week of Monday, November 25, through Sunday, December 1. Among the winners, UMass Boston's women's hockey first years
Lily Hayes (Longmeadow, Mass.) and
Avery Brooks (Grosse Ile, Mich.) were selected as this week's NEHC Player and Rookie of the Week. Beacons' men's hockey sophomore forward
Jack Mortson (Detroit, Mich.) also received recognition, earning a spot on the men's honor roll.
Lily Hayes: NEHC Women's Hockey Player of the Week
- In the Beacons' 5-3 win over Manhattanville University on Saturday in round one of the 17th annual Women's Codfish Bowl, Hayes finished with two goals (her second and third of the season) on three shots and was +3 en route to the Beacons' seventh consecutive win.
Avery Brooks: NEHC Women's Hockey Rookie of the Week
- Brooks left her mark in the 5-3 win over Manhattanville, assisting on two goals and scoring the Beacons' fourth to propel the Beacons to the Codfish Bowl Championship game.
Jack Mortson: NEHC Weekly Honor Roll
- Mortson scored both goals, including the overtime game-winner in the Beacons' 2-1 win over Bowdoin on Sunday, December 1, 2024. Mortson's game-winner put the Beacons over the Polar Bears for the first time in five seasons.
For Brooks and Hayes, the Beacons' women's hockey team will resume action this Saturday, December 7, against the Connecticut College Camels from the Edward T. Barry Ice Rink, with puck drop slated for 1:00 p.m. in the Beacons' Mental Health Awareness game.
For Mortson and the Beacon's men's hockey team, they will pick up the sticks against the twelfth-best team in the country, Skidmore College, at 7:00 p.m. on Friday and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday from the Edward T. Barry.
