BOSTON, MA (November 30, 2024) – The Beacons women's basketball team will play the first Little East Conference matchup of the 2024-24 season on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. as they tip off against the Western Connecticut State Wolves in Danbury, Connecticut.
Previously:
- All time, the Beacons are 22-45 against the Wolves, and are 8-2 in their last 10 games. Cumulatively, they average 56.24 PPG against WestConn. In 2024, during their last meeting, the Wolves were too much for UMass Boston, pulling away 59-66 in the final quarter on January 24, 2024. Their most recent victory against the Wolves came on December 6, 2023, with the Beacons being victorious 61-48 from their home court.
This Season:
- The first and only win of the Beacons' early season came in an offensive blowout, 84-55, against the Saint Elizabeth University Eagles in the Hunter College Tip-Off Tournament. Junior captain Sibayla Jensen (Portland, Ore.) and sophomore forward Sabanna Berrios (Providence, R.I.) lead the team in scoring with 9.8 and 9.0 PPG, respectively. Jensen, along with junior guard Tatiannah Fevry, leads the defensive charge around the perimeter, each leading the team with 2.3 steals per game. Sophomore forward Samora Merchant leads the efforts on the glass, averaging a team-high 7.0 rebounds per game. Sophomore rookie Hialeah Turner-Foster has begun blossoming into her new role on the team, leading the team in scoring in the last two games as she makes her living at the free-throw line.
- The Wolves are 2-4 to start the year, with wins over York College (89-34), and John Jay College (69-59). Their most recent matchup saw a ten-point loss against the University of Saint Joesph. The Wolves are averaging 67.2 PPG, led by first-year center Nia Rencher, 16.7 PPG to go with 9.5 RPG, one steal, and one block per game. Junior guard Malaysia Dingle leads the defensive effort around the perimeter with 3.2 SPG.
