HOW IT HAPPENED
An early UMass Boston penalty put Seaman in a mismatch. It took just over five and a half minutes for the Vikings to sneak one past the first year tender for the game's opening score.Â
The Beacons peppered the Salem State net with shots in search of the equalizing goal. Less than seven minutes after falling behind, they pulled even courtesy of
Katie Wilbert's second score of the year. With assists from
Hannah MacDougall and
Mia Boyd, the goal knotted the score at one.
In the second period, the Beacons continued to keep shots away from Seaman. Pucks that did get past the stingy defense were consistently corralled by the freshman goalkeeper. With just over nine minutes remaining in the frame, Seaman saved a shot and found MacDougall in open ice. MacDougall controlled the feed and found a streaking
Margeaux Butters who delivered a top-shelf score to give the Beacons their first lead of the night.
Butters' score proved to be all the Beacons would need thanks to Seaman's 10 saved on 10 shots faced in the second and third. However, that did not stop Wilbert from padding the lead with her second goal of the evening. Capitalizing on a power play opportunity, Wilbert used assists from
Jenna Majewski and Butters to put the game away, 3-1.
