Staying Hot! - Women's Hockey Wins Sixth Straight

BOSTON, Mass. - UMass Boston Women's Hockey kept their winning ways going on Saturday afternoon, taking down the visiting Huskies of the University of Southern Maine 2-1 for their sixth straight victory.

THE BASICS
UMass Boston 2, University of Southern Maine 1

UMass Boston (9-9-3, 8-4-2 NEHC)
University of Southern Maine (11-8-2, 8-4-2 NEHC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beacons wagered their shots on goal early and often on Saturday. Though Haley McKim stood strong in goal for the Huskies for 14 minutes, her clean sheet would be stained in the 15th. With Mia Boyd and Jenna Majewski providing assists, Emily Hansen knocked in her fourth goal of the season for a 1-0 lead.

The deficit was no sweat for Southern Maine, who saw an opportunity to respond just two minutes later in the form of a UMass Boston penalty. The Huskies took advantage of the power play, pulling even at one score apiece with just under four minutes to play in the first.

In the second period the Beacons fired off eight shots and the Huskies five, but both goalies were impenetrable in the net.

With just under eight minutes to play in regulation, the Huskies committed a penalty to give the Beacons a power play opportunity. For the second time in the game, the home team made good. With Majewski once again providing the assist, it was Katie Wilbert sending the puck into the back of the net for the go-ahead goal.

Leah Bosch held on for the final eight minutes to secure the Beacons sixth straight victory and their fourth straight win on home ice.
