New England College (5-13-0, 1-11-0 NEHC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
A pair of power play opportunities per side did little to help the offenses of UMass Boston and New England College in the first period on Friday. Kennedy knocked down all nine shots wagered by the Pilgrims, while the Beacons 10 opening period attempts all met the glove of Amy Donnelly.Â
The defensive standstill did not last long in the second period. With just shy of four minutes run off the clock,
Kristen Briggs and
Liz Kramp connected to set up Isabella Henningson-Brown for her first goal of the season. Eleven saves apiece from Kennedy and Donnelly kept the score frozen at 1-0 for the remainder of the the second.
Once again, the Beacons came out of the locker room hot to start the third period. The team's very first shot of the frame found the back of the net to give
Hannah MacDougall her second score of the season and extend the lead to 2-0.
Emma Webster and
Allie Reifler were credited with assists on MacDougall's goal.
After helping out on the insurance goal, Reifler was once again feeling generous in search of the dagger. She took a pass from
Gabby Shontz and secured her second assist of the evening, setting up
Jenna Fitzsimmons' first career goal for a 3-0 lead.
