THE BASICS
UMass Boston 4, Plymouth State University 1
UMass Boston (5-9-3, 4-4-2 NEHC)
Plymouth State University (3-12-0, 3-7-0 NEHC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresh off of a 2-1 victory over Castleton on Friday night, the Beacons came out in search of more on offense. The hosts fired off over a dozen shots to no avail, but a blocked Adrianna Crepaldi attempt was corralled by
Hannah MacDougall who fed an assist to
Gianna Skrelja for the game's opening score.Â
In the second period, the Beacons were looking to extend their advantage, and a power play opportunity gave them a chance to do so. Five consecutive saves by Plymouth gave UMass Boston just over 20 seconds to make good on the player-up opportunity. With
Gabby Shontz supplying the assist,
Emma Webster did just that, knocking in her first goal of the season.
The Beacons continued to rattle off shots after the conclusion of the power play. Less than a minute after the lead grew to 2-0,
Katie Wilbert tacked on a third goal courtesy of assists from
Mia Boyd and
Allie Reifler.Â
The second period scoring frenzy continued after the Wilbert goal, this time spreading to the other side of the ice. Just over a minute after their deficit grew to three, Plymouth State's Jacqueline Martin cut it back down to two with her first goal of the season.
Both goalies locked in late to keep the score at 3-1 for the majority of the third period. The lead only grew to 4-1 when a Plymouth State miscommunication let to an own goal with an empty net. That score would hold to give the Beacons their second victory of the weekend.
