ATTLEBORO, Mass. – After being held scoreless last weekend at home, UMass Boston Women's Ice Hockey came to life on the offensive end against Johnson and Wales University while freshman goalie
Leah Bosch earned her first career shutout for the Beacons in their 2-0 win over the Wildcats on the road Friday night.
THE BASICS
UMass Boston 3, Johnson & Wales University 0
UMass Boston (9-12-1, 7-7-1 NEHC)
Johnson & Wales University (5-13-2, 5-8-2 NEHC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
A first period dominated by the Beacons would see them fire 10 shots on net against junior goalie Leah White while Bosch only had to combat five shots through the opening 20 minutes of play. Sophomore forward
Liz Kramp tallied her second goal of the season, six minutes into the contest, from freshman forward
Adriana Crepaldi, putting UMass Boston in front, 1-0, a lead they would hold onto through the opening frame.
The one-goal edge for the Beacons would hold through two periods after a defensive battle ensued in the second period between the two sides. A back-and-forth battle resulted in a combined 15 shots on goal with UMass Boston holding a 9-6 edge in the category, but both Bosch and White stood tall in goal for their respective teams, sending the game to the final 20 minutes with the Beacons ahead by just one still.
UMass Boston would add some insurance in the third period when freshman forward
Emily Hansen scored her sixth goal of the season three and a half minutes into the frame from senior
Cailey Kozich and freshman defender
Clare Giuliano. The goal tied Hansen with sophomore defender
Margeaux Butters for the team-lead in goals. An empty net goal tacked on in the closing minutes by sophomore defender
Melina Maggio, her first collegiate goal, would put a cap on a 3-0 road win for the Beacons against Johnson and Wales.
