Women’s Ice Hockey Finishes 1-0 Against Connecticut College From New London, CT

BOSTON, MA (December 5. 2023) – The UMass Boston women's ice hockey team fell just short to the Connecticut College Camels from New London, CT in a tight 1-0 finish in the third period as the Beacons fall to 3-7-3 on the year.

The Beacons tallied 17 shots on goal, led by a team-high three shots by junior forward Ana Gustafson. The Beacs were able to put a body on 21 of the Camels' shots, as Connecticut College totaled 29 shots in their win over the Beacons. Sophomore forward Emily Hansen led the team in faceoff wins, winning eight of her 11 draws at the circle. Sophomore goalie Leah Bosch gave it her all in the effort, stopping 28 of the 29 shots she faced.

UMass Boston stuck first on the stat sheet, recording the first effort just under a minute into the game. The Camels stayed level with the Beacons, answering each opportunity against them with one of their own. The Beacons held the offensive advantage at the end of the first period outshooting the Camels seven to six.

In the second period, both defenses seemed to shine as there were less than ten total recorded shots for both teams at the end of the period. The Camels regained the offensive edge on their home ice, outshooting the Beacons six to four. The two teams headed into the third stalemate at the initial tie.

The Camels came out in the third period rifling off shots, recording seven shots in their power play to begin the period. With seven and a half minutes passed, the Camels finally broke the ice with sophomore forward Serena Seiple putting away the winner off first-year forward Gillian Kibbey's dish. The Beacons would go on to only record six shots in their final push towards victory, as the Camels were able to stave them off to successfully defend their home ice.

The Beacons return home for the remainder of the week before traveling north on Friday, December 9. They will face off against number five nationally ranked Middlebury College from Middlebury, VT in a non-conference matchup. The Beacons have an opportunity to prove themselves against the nations top talent, live stats and video coverage will be available at UMass Boston - Official Athletics Website (beaconsathletics.com).
