Women's Hoops Drops Conference Opener at Eastern Connecticut

WILLIMANTIC, C.T. - UMass Boston Women's Basketball hung tight in their conference opener at Eastern Connecticut State before eventually falling to the Warriors by a final score of 62-49 on Saturday afternoon.

THE BASICS
UMass Boston 49, Eastern Connecticut State University 62

UMass Boston (2-4, 0-1 LEC)
Eastern Connecticut State University (3-4, 1-0 LEC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Eastern Connecticut was quick to open up an 8-2 advantage in the opening minutes, but a 10-3 UMass Boston run led by four points apiece from Skyler Sandison and Kayla Jackson put the Beacons out in front. Sibayla Jensen knocked down the game's first three-pointer to keep the score tight headed into the second quarter.

A sustained run for the home team put the Beacons down 10 with under 90 seconds to play in the first half. A midrange jumper from Jensen and a three at the buzzer from standout freshman Sophie Bradbury put them right back in the action, cutting the lead to 30-25 at the break.

The Beacons prevented any sustained runs in the second half, but could not quite chip away at the lead. Eastern Connecticut stretched their advantage out to double-digits, taking the game by a 62-49 final.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Keriann Farina led the Beacons with 11 points, her fourth-straight game of double-digit scoring
  • Bradbury - a 5-7 guard - leads the team with 4.2 rebounds per game
  • The Beacons got 18 of their 49 points from their bench players
  • Eastern has won the last 10 matchups between these teams

WHO'S NEXT
The Beacons will return to their home court when they host Western Connecticut State University for a 5 PM tipoff at the Clark Athletic Center on Wednesday, December 6.
