HOW IT HAPPENED
The early goings on Friday's game saw a host of strong opportunities from both offensive units, but a strong showing from both goalies kept the game scoreless through 15 minutes of play.Â
With the final minutes of the period waning, a Plymouth State penalty granted the Beacons their best scoring opportunity of the day. The team's first power play goal in 10 opportunities this season shot through the pipes off the stick of
Margeaux Butters with three and a half minutes until the first intermission.
The scoring, as it turns out, was contagious. Less than two minutes had run off the clock in the second period before Plymouth State found the back of the net to even the score at one goal apiece.Â
The Beacons continued to pepper the Plymouth State goaltender with shots, but none of them could find their way into the net. With just over a minute to play until the second intermission, the UMass Boston deficit grew to 2-1 courtesy of the Panthers' second score of the evening.Â
The Beacons' offensive attack was finally rewarded with a goal just over ten minutes into the third period.
Liz Kramp turned an assist from
Katie Wilbert into the equalizing goal, pulling the game even at 2-2.
Both teams continued to wager shots late in hopes of finding the tie-breaker. That illustrious fifth goal came from the stick of Plymouth State's Lauren St. McNeil, who put in the winner with less than three minutes left to play.
