HOW IT HAPPENED
The goals came early and often for the Beacons on Monday night. In the 15th minute
Georgia Bonney set up for a corner kick and put the ball right where
Caileigh Sullivan needed it to knock in her third goal of the season. Just minutes later,
Christina LaFauci grabbed a pass from
Sarah Kelley and took it to the net for a score of her own, extending the lead to 2-0.
In the 21st minute, Bonney and Sullivan conjured up a bit of deja vu, once again connecting on a corner kick opportunity to give Sullivan her second goal of the opening half.
With her team mounting a comfortable lead early, head coach
Amy Zombeck flooded the field with younger players for some unprecedented playing time. One of those players logging a career-high in minutes was
Sofia Roberts, who took the opportunity to push the lead to 4-0 with her first career goal.
With the final seconds of the first half ticking off,
Amanda Regan put an exclamation point on a dominant 45 minutes of play, capitalizing off of a pass from
McKenna Hallinan to score her second goal of her freshman campaign.
After tying
Kaylee Haynes for the team lead in goals in the first half, Sullivan got generous and dished one out to the grad student. Haynes' team-best fifth goal of the season put the lead to 6-0 in favor of the hosts.
The late minutes of the second half saw
Alexis Williamson and
Julia Walsh pad the lead with their first career goals, helping the Beacons pick up a dominant 8-0 victory.
UMass Boston saw solid goalie play from three different goalies with
Julia Cote,
Delaney Sartwell, and
Gwyn Moore each logging 19-plus minutes in net. Moore and Cote each finished the night with a save.
