MANSFIELD, Conn. - Senior
Gavin Admirand's (Marshfield, Mass.) six goals and dished out five assists to propel the UMass Boston men's lacrosse team to a 22-6 victory over Little East Conference (LEC) rival Eastern Connecticut State University on Saturday afternoon. The win clinches at least a share of the 2022 LEC regular season title, and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming conference tournament.
THE BASICS
UMass Boston 22, Eastern Connecticut 6
UMass Boston (13-2, 7-0 LEC)
Eastern Connecticut (5-9, 3-4 LEC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beacons came out of the gate scoring once again, netting five consecutive goals to start the game. They would not surrender the lead for the remainder of the afternoon.
In the fourth quarter, Admirand netted his sixth goal of the game courtesy of an assist from fellow UMB 100-point club member and fellow senior
Michael Claflin (Newton, Mass.). The goal was Admirand's 50th of the season, good for second best in the LEC. He now sits just 18 points shy of 200 in his career. Only four players in UMass Boston lacrosse history have reached that benchmark.
Chalfin finished the game with three goals and three assists. Sophomore
Jacob Banks (Westminster, Mass.) and freshman Shane McGonangle (Haverhill, Mass.) tallied three goals each.
The UMass Boston defense was impenetrable in the second quarter as junior goalie
Trevor Koppy (Attleboro, Mass.) and company shut out Eastern Connecticut, thanks in large part to his defense forcing seven turnovers and allowing just one shot on goal. Nine different Beacons forced a turnover on Saturday.
The Beacons' defense was once again sharp in the fourth quarter, allowing just one goal in the final frame. The three UMB goalies - Koppy and sophomores
Otto Kirleis (Boston, Mass.) and
Christian Meinhold (Boxborough, Mass.) - allowed just six goals in the game while recording 18 combined saves.
BY THE NUMBERS
