UNDEFEATED: Lacrosse Is Perfect In LEC Play With Win Over Castleton

Beacons record their first complete undefeated record in LEC play in program history

BOSTON, Mass. – For the first-time in program history, lacrosse defeated every Little East Conference opponent that crossed their path in 2022 as they closed out their regular season conference schedule with a one-sided 28-8 win over Castleton University Tuesday evening at James Cotter Field.

THE BASICS:
UMass Boston 28, Castleton 8

UMass Boston (14-2, 8-0 Little East Conference)
Castleton (2-13, 2-5 Little East Conference)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
UMass Boston controlled the game on offense and defense from the opening faceoff as they posted seven goals in the first quarter without allowing a single Castleton score. Dating back to April 23 against Eastern, this was the second straight quarter, and third out of the last four, that the Beacons did not allow a goal.

While the Beacons spread the ball around evenly, Jacob Banks had recorded a hat trick with just under five minutes to play in the opening frame.

With two goals and four assists, Gavin Admirand led the way with six points, inching closer to 200 in his career, now sitting just 12 shy of the benchmark.

The Beacons once again saw goalie-by-committee with Trevor Koppy, Christian Meinhold, and Otto Kirleis each playing at least ten minutes between the pipes. Koppy earned his 12th win of the season, saving seven while allowing just one goal in over 19 minutes in net.

BY THE NUMBERS:
  • 16 different Beacons recorded a goal on Tuesday, the most in a game this season
  • UMB shot the ball 75 times, their most in a game since February 22, 2020
  • The Beacons scooped 62 ground balls compared to 24 for the Spartans and they won 32 of 40 face-offs
  • Lacrosse has now won 16 straight regular season conference games
  • The Beacons have won 7 of their 8 conference games this season by a double-digit margin
  • The Beacons are now 2-1 all-time against Castleton
  • The 20 point victory does not quite measure up to their largest win against the Spartans, a 30-6 victory on April 17, 2021
  • Last season the Beacons posted a 5-0 record in LEC play, but did not face Keene State College, and their win over Mass. Maritime Academy was a non-conference decision due to the fact that MMA could not leave the state during the height of the pandemic.
  • The Beacons entered Tuesday's contest ranked 10th on the most recent New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Regional Poll

WHO'S NEXT:
The Beacons will close out the 2022 regular season this Friday when they host New England College at 7 p.m. on Senior Day.
