BOSTON, Mass. – Softball saw their two-game skid come to a close as they grabbed an 11-7 game one win, but were quickly handed their third loss in the last 24 hours as Suffolk University handed the Beacons a 12-1 defeat to earn the non-conference split Tuesday afternoon at UMB Softball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The opener was all UMass Boston as they tacked on four runs in the bottom half of the opening frame. They would then score three more in the third to take a than comfortable 7-0 lead. However a disastrous top of the fourth, put Suffolk within one-run.
The Beacons would get out of the inning and held the Rams scoreless for the next two innings, while they put-up a four-spot in the bottom of the sixth to gain some breathing room. Suffolk's final run came in the top of the seventh, but any chance of a comeback was pushed aside by Haley Catania.
UMB pounded out 12 hits in the game one win with
Jordan Toomey going 3-for-4 with three RBI.
Sydney Sanden was 2-for-2 with two run scored and RBI.
Catania went all seven innings and had five strikeouts, while only walking two.
In the second game, Suffolk used a pair of three-run innings to take a 7-0 lead into the sixth. UMass Boston cut the deficit back to six with a run in the bottom of the fifth. However, Suffolk sealed the win in the seventh when they put-up 12 runs to earn the split.
The Beacons were held to just four hits, while the Rams recorded 14, including five for extra bases.
Meghan Adams was handed the loss after allowing six runs, two earned, on six hits through the first four innings.
Emily Doble finished out the contest and allowed six runs, four earned, on eight hits.
BY THE NUMBERS
- All-time the Beacons are now 15-8 against Suffolk
- Tuesday's contest marked the first meeting between UMass Boston and the Rams since March 10, 2018, when they faced each other in Florida
- It was the first time that UMass Boston hosted the Rams at the UMB Softball Field since April 2, 2014, when they earned a split in that meeting (1-2, 3-1)
