Corsairs Slips Past Softball In LEC Play

UMass Dartmouth hands the Beacons a pair of one-run losses

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Softball was handed a pair of one-run losses by intra-state rival UMass Dartmouth in Little East Conference play Monday afternoon at UMD Softball Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In game one, the Corsairs picked-up the victory thanks to a Lindsay Chubbuck solo home run in the in the top of the fourth inning. The Beacons were held to just three hits in what was a solid pitchers duel between Emily Doble and Jill Richards. Richards tallied seven strikeouts, and surrendered one walk. Doble allowed just two hits and two walks.

The nightcap, saw Sarah Harlinski drove in the first run of the day for UMass Boston as she hit an RBI single in the top of the second. The Corsairs would respond with three runs in the bottom half of the same inning to take a two-run lead.

After four scoreless innings, the Beacons tried to pull-off a seventh inning comeback, with Brianna Melchionda plating UMB's second run on a sac-fly. With runners on first and second, the Beacons were unable to get the tying run as the Corsairs held on for the victory.

UMB combined for nine hits in the game two loss, while the Corsairs finished with seven.

Melchionda was handed the loss despite striking out five.
