Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Â
After falling in game-one, the Beacons plate three runs in the bottom of the first in game-two, and sophomore
Emily Doble (Danvers, Mass.) made those three runs stand up as she held the Panthers to one run on five hits in a complete game victory in the circle, improving her record to 5-4 for the season.
Â
Freshman
Gabriella Messier (Berkley, Mass.) led the bottom of the first off with a single through the left side of the infield and later scored from second on junior
Sydney Sanden's (Riverton, Conn.) RBI-single to center field. She would come home two batters later on freshman
Amauri English's (North Providence, R.I.) double to the right field corner to make it a 2-0 game. English advanced to third on a wild pitch before scoring on an error to cap the scoring in the frame.
Â
Doble kept Plymouth State off the board until the top of the sixth, where Lauren Archambault single to left the lead off the inning before eventually scoring from third on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Madison Harris.
Â
Sanden finished the game 2-for-2 with a double, and RBI and a run scored, while Messier was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Â
The opener was scoreless until the top of the top of the fifth, where Plymouth State got to sophomore
Brianna Melchionda for each of their four runs. Alysssa D'Alessio and Archambault both scored on one-out squeeze plays to open the scoring, before an two-out error allowed the final two runs to cross the plate for the 4-0 final.
Â
Nicole LeBrun scattered six hits and two walks while fanning five batters over her 5.2 innings of work to earn the decision in the circle for the Panthers. Sam McCann fanned three of the four batters she faced to close out the game-one win.
Â
The Beacons had a pair of quality scoring changes in game-one, stranding two runners in the first and sixth, and leaving senior
Britney Perkett (Pittsfield, Mass.) at third with one out after leading off the frame with an infield single.
