Eight Goal Fourth Lifts Lacrosse To Win Over RWU

Michael Claflin led the Beacons with 7 points in the 18-14 win over the Hawks

BRISTOL, R.I. – An eight goal fourth quarter, and a team-leading seven points from Michael Clafflin lift lacrosse to an 18-14 win over Roger Williams University Saturday afternoon at Bayside Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Claflin's afternoon carried the Beacons to their 16-straight regular season win, as he registered four goals to go along with three assists. Donvoan Prozinski matched Claflin with four goals of his own. Darragh Fahey finished second on the team with six points, as the senior posted two goals and four assists.

In a back-and-forth affair from the opening face-off, UMass Boston countered an RWU eight goal third quarter to earn the come-from-behind victory. The Beacons led after two frames thanks a to a pair of goals in the second to make it 7-5.

The Hawks took off on the third as they outscored the Beacons 8-3 to hold a slim 13-10 advantage.

The Beacons attack came out firing in the fourth as they went on a 5-0 run to take a 15-13 lead.

RWU cut UMB's lead to one with just over six minutes to play in regulation. The Beacons would seal the non-conference victory as they closed out the contest with three unanswered goals.

Trevor Koppy notched 11 stops to earn his first win of the season.

Six different Beacons recorded one caused turnover, while Jason McNeany led UMB with five ground balls.

  • The Beacons finished 5-for-7 on man-up opportunities while the defense held RWU scoreless on their five man-up chances.
