Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Â
The Colonels played the Beacons close in the opening minutes of the game, taking as much as a three-point lead with 16 minutes to play. That would be the last time Curry would be in the lead as the Beacons, led by Lorquet took over, building a 12-point lead, 31-19, going into the half.
Â
Lorquet's 16 first half points eclipsed his full game total from each of the last two matchups. He scored the last 10 points of the half for UMass Boston, helping them build their double-digit lead at the break.
Â
In the second half, freshman guard
Xavier McKenzie added on to his impressive freshman campaign, posting eight points, four rebounds, and four assists on an efficient 3-for-4 from the field. McKenzie, who took home LEC Rookie of the Week honors in November, is averaging 13.3 points per game on the season.
Â
Sophomore guard
Emanuel Zayas continued his trend of impressive shooting, going 3-for-4 from beyond the arc in the second half. His 47.1% shooting clip from three-point range is the best on the team among those with more than two attempts.Â
Â
A late Curry College run cut a 23-point deficit to 14 points with under three minutes to play. However, size proved to be the difference as Lorquet's career-best 25 points helped the Beacons outscore the Colonels 36-18 in the paint, leading to their 66-50 road victory.
