Women's Basketball Unable to Overcome Dominant WPI Defense

WORCESTER, Mass. - UMass Boston Women's Basketball dropped a game dominated by defense on Saturday afternoon as the Worcester Polytechnic Institute defense held Beacons to a program record 23 points, handing them a 50-23 loss on the road.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Strong defense from the Beacons held WPI to their lowest scoring total of the season and in program history. Freshman guards Beeban Jikiemi-Pearson and Sibayla Jensen each contributed three steals towards a team total of 11.
 
The Beacons kept the game close early, at one point trailing just 24-14 with 4:38 remaining in the third quarter after a three from graduate forward Meg Dixon, but could not overcome the defensive presence of the Engineers

Dixon contributed a game-high eight points to go with a game-best eight rebounds in the 27-point defeat. 
 
BY THE NUMBERS
? The Beacons held WPI to a season-low 30.8% shooting and a season-high 23 turnovers
? UMass Boston has now dropped two consecutive matchups with WPI with the all-time series
now in favor of the Beacons, 3-2
 
WHO'S NEXT
The Beacons will have the next week off from competition before welcoming Rhode Island College to the Clark Athletic Center for a pivotal conference matchup on Saturday, December 17 at 1:00 PM before their winter break.
