BOSTON, Mass. – Transfer junior forward Alexah Potter scored 18 points off the bench for UMass Boston Women's Basketball in their season opener against Mount Holyoke College at home as the Beacons shot 45.3% from the field en route to a 45-point victory, 79-34 on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After trailing 1-0, UMass Boston would go on a 12-0 run led by five points from graduate forward Meg Dixon and senior forward Paige Ollivierre to take a 12-1 lead. From there, the Beacons would never look back, extending their lead to 12 points before the end of the first quarter after a 6-2 run by Potter to close the opening frame put them ahead, 21-9.
The 6-2 run would mount into a 15-2 run before Mount Holyoke would record their next basket as UMass Boston opened up a 21-point lead, 30-9 just under two and a half minutes into the second quarter. Leading by as many as 28 points in the second frame, the Beacons would carry a 26-point advantage, 45-19, heading into the locker room at halftime.
Playing their closest quarter of the game, UMass Boston would outscore the Lyons 14-8 in the third quarter to extend their lead to 32 points going into the final 10 minutes of the game. The Beacons largest lead of the evening would come with 32 seconds left in the contest, taking a 47-point lead, before conceding a basket at the buzzer to close the game with a 79-34 home victory.
In her first collegiate game and start, freshman guard Beeban Jikiemi-Pearson scored 10 points on 5-of-10 shooting and tacked on four rebounds for UMass Boston.
Sophomore forward Sunny Green registered 10 points and four rebounds in her 23 minutes of play, shooting 3-for-5 from the field.
Alexah Potter recorded a team-high 18 points off the bench on 8-of-11 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds.
Freshman guard Libby Harris led Mount Holyoke with 10 points in 34 minutes.

The Beacons will play host to Colby-Sawyer College next Tuesday night at 5:30 PM inside Clark Athletic Center for only the fourth time in program history. UMass Boston is 2-1 all-time versus the Chargers with their last matchup coming in 1990.
