THE BASICS

UMass Boston (4-1)

Fitchburg State University (1-5)

HOW IT HAPPENED

UMass Boston would only trail twice in the contest with both those deficits coming in the opening quarter of the game. Junior guard Olivia Almeida opened up the game with a three-pointer for Fitchburg State to make it 3-0 and then a layup from sophomore forward Delaney Brown would make it 7-5 in favor of the Falcons with 5:34 left before the Beacons would go ahead for good.

A 9-0 run for UMass Boston led by Green with seven points help the Beacons take a 14-7 lead heading into the second quarter where they would expand their lead even further. A 5-0 run by graduate forward Meg Dixon from the free throw over a span of 32 seconds helped expand the UMass Boston advantage to nine, 19-10, and four more points from Dixon a short while later brought the Beacon lead to double digits for the first time, 23-13.

UMass Boston would control the game by as many as 17 points with 3:42 to go in the second half and hold a 14-point advantage, 34-20, heading into the halftime locker room.

Opening up the second half, the Beacons would go up by as many as 20 points in the third quarter on two separate occasions when senior forward Keriann Farina hit a layup with 5:10 remaining and Green knocked down a jumper at the 3:39 mark. Freshman guard Sibayla Jensen's buzzer beater following an inbounds steal on the offensive end put UMass Boston ahead, 51-31, with one quarter to play.

A pair of free throws from senior forward Paige Ollivierre would give the Beacons their largest lead of the entire contest at 26 points in the fourth quarter as UMass Boston closed the game with a 64-38 victory over Fitchburg State University.
