NEW YORK, N.Y. – After dropping their first game of the season on Friday night, UMass Boston Women's Basketball returned for the Consolation Game of the Hunter College Invitational, getting big performances once again from graduate forward Meg Dixon and junior transfer forward Alexah Potter en route to a 36-point victory over Lesley University, 80-44, on Saturday afternoon.

UMass Boston (3-1)

Lesley University (1-4)

HOW IT HAPPENED

In the opening three minutes of the game, Potter and Dixon single-handedly led the Beacons to 12 straight points with six apiece to jump out to a 12-0 lead before the Lynx would record their first basket on a free throw from freshman guard Paige Stowers. The smallest deficit for Lesley University in the game would be nine points with 54 seconds left in the first quarter.

Freshman guard Sibayla Jensen would give UMass Boston their first 20-point lead with 7:05 remaining in the second quarter after senior guard Paige Ollivierre forced a Lynx turnover as the Beacons led 30-10 and continued to roll into the halftime break with a 24-point advantage, 43-19.

Starting the second half, Potter and Dixon would go to work again much like they did in the first quarter to rattle off the first six points of the half for UMass Boston before giving way to a stretch in which Ollivierre would net eight of the next 10 Beacon points in the quarter. The Lynx would go on an 8-0 run to close out the third quarter, but UMass Boston maintained full control heading into the fourth, 62-33.

In the closing minutes of the game, junior guard Emily Garufi would appear for seven minutes, going 2-for-3 from the floor with a three-pointer and two free throws to finish with seven points. Garufi would score the final five points for the Beacons who rolled to their third double-digit win of the season, 80-44.
