HOW IT HAPPENED
The UMass Boston defense which has continued to get stronger and stronger as the season wears on, held its own in the first half against Tufts while being outshot 16-0 and 5-0 in shots on goal. The Jumbos would strike first in the 37th minute when senior forward Claire Wilkinson crossed the ball in front of the net. Wilkinson's pass grazed the head of junior midfielder Thalia Greenberg, redirecting the shot past senior goalkeeper Maria Spylios on the left side of the goal mouth.

Tufts would add to their lead in the 60th minute, a short while after junior forward Sarah Kelley recorded the first shot on goal for the Beacons, when junior defender Madelyn Silveira sprinted down the right sideline after receiving a pass from the defensive end. Silveira slanted towards the goal before locating freshman forward Elsi Aires in the middle of the goal mouth who rocketed a shot just under the crossbar to give the Jumbos the 2-0 advantage.

The Beacons would not go quietly and threatened to get back in the match when senior defender Kelly McNeil found senior forward Kaylee Haynes for her second goal of the season, cutting the UMass Boston deficit to one goal, 2-1.

However, in short time, the Jumbos would add two more goals to their total for the night with junior midfielder Casey Lam netting two opportunities in the 79th and 83rd minute as the Beacons fell 4-1 on the road.
